Ga. DPH, North-Central Health District Confirmation of positive COVID-19 Case of a Monroe County Resident.

This morning the Ga. DPH, North-Central Health District confirmed a Monroe County resident has COVID-19 (coronavirus).
The specific circumstances of how or where the virus was contracted is unknown at this time. The health district is working to identify the person’s source of exposure and close contacts. Those identified as having been potentially exposed will be contacted, be provided with information on self-quarantining, and monitoring for respiratory symptoms. We will update as more information becomes available.

What we can tell you for sure is, there is no need to be alarmed or panic. As with any other flu-like illness or virus, proper preventative measures will help reduce the possibility of transmission or spreading to others.
Most everyone in Monroe County has been doing just that.

Please encourage others to continue to follow the CDC and DPH recommendations and guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Your public safety agencies in Monroe County (EMA, FFD, MCES) are working together in dealing with COVID-19 prevention and response measures, and have been for some time.
Through training, protective and preventative measures, and ensuring new and up-to-date operating guidelines are in place, including the preparation and response of situations such as this.
All with the unwavering support of your county and city governments, officials, departments, organizations, and agencies. We also appreciate the close partnership we have with Ga. DPH and the benefit of their expertise.

This is not a time to be alarmed.
This is not a time to panic-buy.
This is not a time to spread fear or false information.
This is not a time for assumptions.
It is a time to continue to be smart and calm.
It is a time to look out for each other, and continue assisting those in need in our community.
It is a time to follow and adhere to prevention guidelines and recommendations by the CDC and DPH.
It is a time to show those watching, how Monroe County takes care of each other, it’s neighbors, and our community, in the ways we are renown for.

*Stay home if you’re sick
*Practice Social Distancing
*Contact your local health care provider or DPH if
you are experiencing flu-like symptoms or illness.
