The Monroe County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Jackson as Deputy County Manager, effective Feb. 1, 2026.
Monroe County Commissioners unanimously approved Jackson’s appointment following an executive session to discuss personnel at the conclusion of the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting last night (Tuesday, Sept. 9).
Jackson, a dedicated public servant with a proven record of leadership, will continue to serve as Chief of Monroe County Fire & Emergency Services while assuming the additional responsibilities of Deputy County Manager. In this dual role, he will support county operations and assist in advancing strategic priorities across all departments.
“Chief Jackson has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to Monroe County, and we are confident he will excel in this expanded role and help guide our county forward,” said District 2 Commissioner Eddie Rowland.
Although Chief Jackson will be taking over for new county manager Lorri Robinson-Byrd as Deputy County Manager, he will not be filling Robinson-Byrd’s current role as the county’s finance director. Commissioners will soon begin a search to hire a new finance director.
Chief Jackson continues to serve Monroe County with distinction in his role leading Fire & Emergency Services, where he has overseen critical operations, enhanced public safety, and strengthened community preparedness. His appointment reflects the Board’s confidence in his ability to balance emergency services leadership with broader county management responsibilities.
